HOMOEOPATHY
WHAT
IS IT?
Homoeopathy
uses very dilute preparations of natural herbs and minerals to
trigger the body into an appropriate response to disease. This is
"treating like with like", the opposite approach of
conventional medicine which tries to oppose the symptoms of disease
and over-rides the body's own defences.
WHAT
CAN IT HELP?
Patients
often consult homoeopaths for Migraine,
gynaecological problems, immune deficiency, emotional problems
(depression, anxiety etc), asthma, eczema, arthritis and digestive
disorders.
Please
note that as a small private profession, homoeopaths are not able to
undertake extensive -and expensive - research into the effectiveness
of treatment for a wide range of conditions. Therefore this
list is to give you an example of conditions commonly presented to
homoeopaths; it is not a claim that there is cast-iron scientific
evidence that homoeopathy is proven to be of benefit, which would be
a breach of trading standards legislation.
FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS:
Are
there any side effects?
No, and you cannot become addicted to them. This is because only a
very minute amount of the active ingredient is used.
How
does it work?
Homeopathy works by stimulating the body’s own healing
power.
What
will the treatment be like
? You will be given a remedy in the form of pills, which should
be dissolved under the tongue.
Nothing should be put in the mouth for 20 minutes before or
after including toothpaste and cigarettes.
No strong substance should be taken whilst having
homoeopathic treatment such as coffee or peppermint because they
will spoil the effect of the remedies.
Can
I take the remedies with prescribed medicine
? Yes, they won’t
interfere with conventional drugs.
How
quickly will it work? A very slowly developing complaint such as an ulcer will not
disappear overnight, but other complaints can get better quickly.
