ACUPUNCTURE
WHAT
IS IT?
Acupuncture
is a healing system in which very fine needles are inserted into
special points on the body, which are found along invisible lines
called meridians. Each meridian is connected to a different organ
system and the needles help to balance negative and positive
energies in the body by stimulating or inhibiting them.
(These are called Yin and Yang)
WHAT
IS IT USED FOR?
Patients
frequently seek acupuncture for neck
and back pain, headaches, arthritis, frozen shoulder, sciatica,
insomnia, IBS, lack of energy, period problems, digestive problems.
FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS:
Does
it hurt?
The
needles are much thinner than those used on a syringe - often as
thin as a human hair! Many people
do not feel them at all and others just feel a slight itch, warm
sensation or dull ache.
Occasionally there is a little bleeding, if a blood vessel is
pierced. This will stop quickly although you should let the
acupuncturist know if you have any clotting problems or are on
anticoagulants.
